The Pathways of the Latin Union

The Latin Union is an international organization of thirty-five nations whose official or national languages are Romance languages (i.e., Catalan, French, Italian, Portuguese or Romanian). Since 2010, the organization has been experiencing a crisis that is said to be financial in nature. The majority of its member nations decided to terminate the Union’s Secretariat in 2012, while agreeing to maintain a certain level of activity around a Pro Tempore Secretariat and a Working Group intended to define its future. Will the Latin Union be able to recover its status, and protect the rich history of its linguistic and cultural heritage? To meet the challenges of our age, the Union can still participate in discussions that would allow it to continue to construct its vision of a peacemaking and pacifist humanism.
