An inevitable shift in society toward a common identity and an unlikely sharing of common values

Since the emergence of the BRICS as a geopolitical bloc, rapid economic growth has been observed in all of its member countries. This has brought profound social and lifestyle changes, with the rural exodus into cities, industrialization, and urbanization. Although the overall standard of living of the population has improved significantly, the growth of national wealth has increased inequality between regions and social classes in each country, as well as unequal access to health care and education. The lack of significant similarities resulting from a shared civilization, history, culture, linguistic heritage, and way of life does not foreshadow any common identity or sharing of common values. There are no foundational circumstances likely to trigger a sense of spontaneous fellow-feeling among the peoples of the BRICS countries in the near future.
