The aim of this article is not to provide yet more discussion on the topic of the “body” but to show how the concept of human communication, as conceived by the journal Hermès, changes how it is understood. In a context of transhumanist madness and of commodification and technologisation of the body, this article restates the ways in which the body above all needs others in order to respond to its discontents. In conclusion, several concepts offer new perspectives for communication science: conversation; continuity-discontinuity; emotions-feelings; empathy; homeostasis; neoteny; malleability; symptom; time; the speaking body.
