In this article, I examine the imbrication of the terms “science,” “technique,” and “society” as well as the importance ascribed to this imbrication in our social organisation. I focus on specifying the meanings I give to these terms, which are often used in ambiguous ways. With a view to this, I present a brief historical approach underlining how important it is to rigorously take into account the idea we have at a given time of what is labelled as ‘nature.’ I then show that the terms “science,” “technique,” and “society” take on specific meaning in the current social and intellectual context.
