In addition to his novels, scripts and plays, Jean-Claude Carrière also wrote books on storytelling relying on his work as a teacher, particularly in the French cinema school la Fémis. The book entitled Exercice du scénario, written with Pascal Bonitzer, could be considered as a classical manual in the sense that it will give clues and keys to students and learners wishing to write fiction for screen. Nevertheless, the word “exercise” in its title is singular, meaning that the book is not really about training sessions but more about how we exercise this profession and how it must be exercised.
