The pandemic brought back the notion of closed borders within the European Union, to prevent people infected with COVID-19 from entering or leaving a national territory and thereby increasing the risk of the virus spreading. The border acts as a junction between the EU and its member states. It persists in the EU, and it is not merely an obstacle to be removed. Is it once again a factor of incommunicability, one that risks undermining the very foundation of integration?
