In the private sphere, Europeans frequently associate food with sharing and the discovery of cultural differences. However, in the mediatized continental public sphere, food is predominately envisioned in terms of competition and conflict. This paradox could perhaps fade away, as has been demonstrated by institutions such as the new Cité internationale de la gastronomie et du vin (International Gastronomy and Wine Center) in Dijon and the Cous Cous Fest in Sicily.
