For Gilles Deleuze, the crisis of the traditional “image-action” is marked, in particular, by the “forme-balade”. The walk, the stroll, the wander – all these figures of pedestrian displacement invade the films of modernity, from neo-realism to the New Wave. Taking examples from Jean-Luc Godard, Éric Rohmer and Jean Rouch, this text looks at the characteristics of walking in cinema.
