Should the “Way of St. James” be regarded as sacred? Instagram and walkers/pilgrims: between continuity and rupture

This article explores the Instagram communication of people making the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela. It shows how the walk to Compostela has developed in our secularized society, in which reaching the shrine of the apostle Saint James is no longer the goal of the pilgrimage. The author argues that with the expression of a form of sacredness on line, the Way, which initially served as a means of transit, has itself become the aim of the journey.
