The Désinfox-Migrations association has been combating disinformation on migration issues for many years, so we can now take stock of how this misinformation works. On the one hand, it is clear that political figures exploit the subject for electoral purposes, which results in a media takeover of the discourse. Unfortunately, this is not always done in a way that eliminates disinformation. For this reason, the association believes that researchers can be useful in recalling the figures and, above all, in contextualizing migration-related issues. But while the fight against disinformation must not be abandoned, as the instrumentalization of migration issues provokes hate speech affecting many people, this fight has its limits, as it is based on rational elements, as opposed to a more emotional discourse. This means repeating the same figures over and over again, and constantly insisting on contextualizing the subject.
