Soldiers engaged in operation, at war, leave their natural environment with the emotional support of their family and friends, who worry about them. They risk their lives and their loved ones honour this risk with considerate fear. However the threat of Islamic terrorism is changing the deal. Now, soldiers in operation can be afraid for their family, in constant danger in France without the soldier being there to protect them. How does this affect soldiers’ sense of commitment, intrinsically grounded in the protection of their loved ones? Can the national rampart represented by our armed forces start to crack?
