Encountering death during medical studies: an initiatory stage that requires appropriate support

At one point or another, every medical student is confronted with death. This inevitable experience can be accompanied by a whole range of often intense emotions, both positive and negative. However, little is said about these aspects during the training course, and the support given to students by their trainers varies greatly. In this section, we discuss these aspects and suggest several areas for improvement, based on the international literature and our own experience in the field.
