The desire to elevate oneself, which long stood as an individual and collective ideal, now sounds like a threat to humanity: since mankind has lost itself in the hubris of its own desires, it now urgently needs to reassume its place. Could the ordeal in which we find ourselves be due to the ‘trans’ of transformation – mankind’s infinite self-transformation – giving way to the ‘trans’ of unbridled transgression, as exemplified by trans-humanism? Let us explore another form of ‘trans’; that of transcendence, a way of rising up that doesn’t involve increasing our power, but rather opening up a breach in our very core.
