Private consultation psychiatry is a medical practice that is distinguished from others by the fact that it establishes a link between the psychiatrist and their patient outside of any institution. The prescription of drugs following a private consultation has its own specific characteristics, which we present in this article. We begin by defining the means available to the psychiatrist to keep himself informed of the findings from scientific sources, then we discuss the particularities of the solitary prescription. We address the specificities of complex drug prescriptions via the examples of clozapine and methylphenidate; and we also present the new prescription assistance tools. Finally, we discuss the importance of the doctor-patient relationship as regards prescription.
