There are many publications in the field of “autism and psychotropics,” but there remains a great deal of disparity in the objectives, methods, results, and risks of adverse effects, leading to a lack of consensus. However, the high incidence of behavioral disorders in intellectually impaired autistic subjects, who are probably the most complex to approach therapeutically and the most vulnerable to adverse effects, makes it difficult for clinicians to assess the timing of treatment, the prescription of medication, and the practical effectiveness and safety of the latter. In this article, we describe a method of complex analysis of behavioral problems in these patients (most of whom are involved in an interaction with the environment) before going on to propose a method of decision-making for the choice, control, and evaluation of prescription, based on data from the literature, identification of a therapeutic target, and consideration of the safety profile of the drug in question.
