I am a 67-year-old transsexual woman and in retirement. I am supporting people in transition as a certified therapist and I am involved in research. This article is a challenge for me. How can I talk about a subject concerning the minority to which I belong, although this subject has been very deeply explored by the “specialists” of transidentity? I am now choosing my side and I will write about my experience as a transidentity person who has evolved in a psychiatric landscape that is itself evolving in relation to transidentity. My contribution to the field study on “the diagnosis of gender incongruence,” conducted as part of the revision of ICD 10 to ICD 11 by the WHO Collaborating Centre for Research and Training in Mental Health in France (CCOMS), has permitted me to adopt a “citizen-patient” perspective on the progress that has been made and the progress that remains to be made.
