Sexual ambiguities, very rare disorders and that are still called Disorders of Sexual Development (DSD), are very poorly understood and cause a great amount of confusion. Their often-late diagnosis poses management problems, and the intervention of a mental health specialist may be necessary and essential. The authors, using an experience of a DSD case referred by the department of urology, analyze the flaws in the healthcare system in light of the occurrence of these rare conditions. They describe the psychosocial characteristics of DSDs and their psychological repercussions in the emotional development of a child in an African cultural context. They emphasize the importance of psychological support, with a focus on the use of drawing as a diagnostic tool.
