Scarification, a typical symptom during adolescence, raises many types of questions. Both a ritual and a trace, this phenomenon is no less a passage to action that is just as disturbing for the clinician as it is, according to the adolescents, endowed with a function of rupture in their often chaotic lives. How can these manifestations of psychological suffering be addressed with the young people undergoing them, their parents, the hospital team, and community doctors? What is the role of drug therapy? How might the effects of the pandemic on people of this age have created new perspectives? We cannot avoid questioning the effects of prescribing antidepressants to adolescents in great difficulty, whose expression of deep distress is sometimes trivialized.
