What do we value? Essay on a few contemporary issues in child psychoanalysis

What can be said of child psychoanalysis today? By looking at history, theories, and clinical cases, we consider the modes of a complex exercise that has been influenced since its origin—that is, the beginning of the previous century—by societal evolutions. The psychoanalytic treatment of a six-year-old boy and his family has led us to rethink the framework in an institutional care system. We conclude by focusing on the aspects of psychoanalysis we are attached to and which, when confronted with criticism, allow support for an ethical and therapeutic commitment, which is both informed and lucid, as well as close to the fluctuations of psychic life.
