If affect is said with the body, even in the body, its representational value (in the intrapsychic as much as in the intersubjective) testifies to the messenger value (toward oneself and toward the other) of its expressive polyphony. This polyphonic character of the emotional object in the psyche unfolds into unconscious affect, “passion” affect, “shared” affect, and “signal” affect. The author demonstrates its deep dynamics, its place in psychic life, and its function in the intersubjective link.
