Psychoanalytic work with autistic children can help them develop a sense of identity through the experience of their relationship with the analyst. This paper will focus on the analysis of Pasha, a boy with an autism diagnosis. It will explore Pasha’s use of bodily functions, movement, and action toward the development of a sense of being “a person,” as he puts it; or, in other words, the importance of the body in the process of becoming an “I,” as described by Tustin (1984).
