How to measure intercultural sensitivity?

This research paper presents the difficulty of measuring a subject’s relationship with cultural differences and, in particular, intercultural sensitivity (IS) (Bennett 1986). In a first study, we highlight the difference in IS level depending on whether the emotional or cognitive dimension is being activated for individuals confronted with cultural difference. In a second study, we expose the weaknesses of current tests, in particular Hammer et al.’s IDI test (1998), which does not consider the emotional dimension of IS. We conclude that the creation of a new test is required, allowing the assessment of both the cognitive and emotional aspects of IS.
