Following a brief description of ethno-clinical mediation and ethno-psychiatric practice in the Centro Studi Sagara, we present a mediation case study involving the social services and a family composed of a mother and her son. The son was displaying violent behavior at school, and the services involved in managing the situation alongside the juvenile court were planning for the child’s placement in foster care. The mediation intervention, which took place around three encounters, involved the work of different institutional actors. After describing the crucial moments of the encounters, we highlight the need for a confrontation between etiology and different representations of illness, so that solutions can be negotiated and shared. Ultimately, the aim is to overcome the conflicts that emerge when caring for patients.
