In France and its overseas territories, speech therapy in multilingual situations is most often delivered in French, the language of the speech therapy professional, at the expense of the multicultural and sociolinguistic dimensions that are co-created in the space of the encounter. The present survey of speech therapists’ professional practices when working with bilingual subjects highlighted the following observation: the skills of this profession appear truncated, lacking in awareness of important clinical realities that are essential for assessment and tailored care. This research therefore suggests a transposition of the some of the tools proposed by Marie Rose Moro’s transcultural care approach to speech therapy, in order to improve care provision in multilingual situations.
