Building affiliation for children born from political rape

Par : Contributeur(s) : Type de matériel : TexteTexteLangue : français Détails de publication : 2022. Sujet(s) : Ressources en ligne : Abrégé : Cross-cultural consultations at the CHU of Bordeaux are provided for women, mainly from the Democratic Republic of Congo, who have given birth to children conceived as a result of political rapes. What is political rape? From our clinical experience, we provide a definition in order to understand the depth of the trauma inflicted on these women, whose bodies are a battlefield for men who represent a powerful, limitless order. The child born under these circumstances is the bearer of this heinous event and the mother struggles to attune to the child. Using a complementarity methodology, we aim to provide care for the mother, and also as far as possible to prevent the transmission of the trauma. We focus our attention on the naming of the child, which reflects the child’s affiliation to the mother and her culture, despite the blurring of filial links. We also provide support for other acts of affiliation, especially religious rites. We use a clinical example to illustrate our analysis.
