Histories of exile and trajectories of psychic vulnerability: from trauma to narrative

Par : Type de matériel : TexteTexteLangue : français Détails de publication : 2023. Sujet(s) : Ressources en ligne : Abrégé : This article offers a theoretical reflection on the link between psycho-trauma, psychic vulnerability and narrative among migrants in exile. We introduce the notion of trajectories of psychic vulnerability in order to reflect the intertwining between psychic life and the socio-cultural contexts of migrants’ life trajectories. These trajectories can cause disorganization in work on the psyche and limit a person’s ability to integrate experiences into a self-narrative. Clinical approaches that afford the possibility of mobilizing familiar cultural representations can facilitate the process of elaboration and integration of experience into a self-narrative.While the notion of trajectories of psychic vulnerability allows us to conceptualize the disruption of psychic processes as a result of the accumulation of adversities, theories on narrative also point to the possibility of overcoming the effects of this disruption by creating a narrative.
