The richness and, above all, the variety of images that the mystery of the Trinity of God has aroused in art over the centuries, especially in the West, is a source of confusion. The author knows this from experience, having worked on this subject for several decades, which has given him the idea of providing researchers with a kind of compass allowing them first of all to classify these images according to the seven stages of their genesis and their main sources of inspiration, and then to evaluate their intellectual relevance in the light of seven criteria drawn from traditional theological reflection on the subject and its specific conceptuality, each of which is illustrated, finally, by three emblematic images.
