Time, Rhythm, and Space: The Influence of Henri Lefebvre in the Field of Historical Archeology

Par : Contributeur(s) : Type de matériel : TexteTexteLangue : français Détails de publication : 2013. Ressources en ligne : Abrégé : Time and space are two of the most fundamental dimensions of archaeological practice. Over the past twenty years the writings of Henri Lefebvre have played an increasingly influential role in the research of historical archaeologists working in North America, Europe and the Caribbean. Much of this research has made use of Lefebvre concepts of spatial representations and representational spaces as well as his notions of time and their relationship to daily life. This paper presents an overview of the various lines of research historical archaeologists have undertaken and their connection to Lefebvre’s ideas concerning daily life and the production of space. It also argues for an even deeper engagement with Lefebvre as an engaged intellectual and the need for such engagement in today’s conflict dominated world.
