China and Russia: Linguistic and cultural contact

Par : Type de matériel : TexteTexteLangue : français Détails de publication : 2018. Sujet(s) : Ressources en ligne : Abrégé : This article focuses on a phenomenon called Russian pidgin, a language compiled from Russian, interspersed with lexical and grammatical elements of the Chinese language. Russian pidgin is used in trade and tourism in the cities on both sides of the Amur River. The Russian-Chinese language appeared in the second half of the eighteenth century. In China, at one time this language was taught to people trading with Russia; textbooks were published and examining committees were established (Chinese traders who were going to trade with Russia were required to pass an exam in the Russian-Chinese language). In the twentieth century, this language went out of use and later it was preserved only in the lives of those from the older generation. However, in the twenty-first century the situation has changed: in the border areas, experts have found that the Russian-Chinese language is being used, with the elements that recall the structures of the pidgin era.
