This paper sketches a portrait of the digital-industry elite through an examination of its history, sociology, and ideology. This new bourgeoisie rallies around the idea of a meritocracy bordering on social Darwinism, a deterministic belief in the benefits of technology, a tolerant conception of morality, and a liberal view of individual rights.
