The professional basis of trade unionism is not only a question of legally defining their scope of intervention, but also the ability of trade unions to engage directly with employees. In short, and more broadly, it raises the issue of their ability to represent all employees. Using the example of structural changes within the Confédération Générale du Travail (CGT) (General Confederation of Labour), this article examines how this workers’ federation has perceived the evolution of work, wage-labor, the economy, and companies.
