At the end of the twentieth century, faced with the neoliberal offensive, the balance of power tipped decidedly away from wage earners. The CGT therefore believes that a new vision of the wage condition is in order, one that can provide new avenues for action and rebalance power dynamics in favor of those whose livelihoods depend on their work. This echoes the CGT’s call for a “new status for salaried work, ” thus signaling a shift from a defensive union stance to a proactive and assertive approach.
