In the hotel industry, where it mainly concerns cleaning jobs, and in particular housekeeping work, subcontracting raises barriers between the employees of contracting companies and those of service providers. Combined with the burden of domestic work, it generates an intensification of work that hinders the professional socialization of female employees. The CGT HPE, a branch of the Confédération Générale du Travail (CGT) (General Confederation of Labour) that focuses on representing workers in the hospitality industry, particularly in high-end and budget hotels, and which opposes outsourcing, sees the unionization of hotel cleaning staff as a path torward their professional integration.
