Despite their apparent incomprehensibility and incoherence, and the impression that they are chiefly driven by a sense of urgency, the educational reforms introduced in recent years in France form part of an overarching neoliberal movement. Though not without some nuances, divergences, and contradictions, these reforms are guided by a number of common principles, including the push for optimal individual, institutional, and system performance driven by competition. Against the backdrop of this shifting institutional framework, trade unionism must respond to new challenges.
