This article is an extension of research carried out in Lille by a team of social workers and sociologists. Our study focuses on the dynamic processes of knowledge construction developed in fuzzy spaces where social intervention and research meet. What meaning do the actors involved give to the link between research and action in the field of social intervention? What logic can bring out this concern for working together in a different manner by positioning the dialogue between research and action at the centre of new forms of cooperation? Considering how the decompartmentalisation of ‘worlds’ inevitably leads to movement, this article highlights the centrality of the social encounter in our collaborative action research approach. Our proposal is based on a reflexive work aiming to analyse the construction process but also the effects of this collaborative practice. We are invited to think of these intermediate spaces as ephemeral and common, as sources of knowledge and experimentation, but also as bearers of mobilising, democratic and solidarity-based dynamics.
