The originality of Pierre Achard's sociology lies in the place he gave language: systematically, theoretically and methodologically integrating discourse analysis within the study of social processes. Meaning, the nodal point between discourse and society, derives from linguistic forms but not exclusively: a social construction and distribution of meanings exists. Enunciation connects utterances, situations and speakers, and analyzing it makes one aware of speakers' social and enunciative positions. In a posthumous text, Achard propounded a "Discursive Semantics", based on the analysis of the "space of points of view", i.e. a space of positions from which one either "sees or does not see" the relationships between words, objects, processes. Analyzing these points of view opens up on a sociological typology of the social construction of meaning.
