This paper presents the results for Corsica in the survey on family history conducted by the French National Institute of Demographic Studies (INED) in 1999 with a sample of 380 000 adults. Once weighted, the 2 943 questionnaires collected in Corsica represent nearly 203 000 Individuals. After discussing the methodology (question forms, wording, compiling results) and how they impact the data, our research draws an overall picture of Corsica (languages known and spoken, intergenerational transmission) and suggests interpreting people's declarations from a double standpoint: their language practices and their social position.
