"In the second half of the 20th century two intellectuals, Yvan Fonagy and John J. Gumperz, were interested, in isolation from each other, in the semantic nature of concrete sounds (pronunciation, prosody, voice) pertaining to the construction of the meaning of dialogues. I am here proposing a posthumous dialogue around two of their concepts: vocal gesture and contextualization cues. First I point out the resemblances; then, applying those two concepts, I study an excerpt of a professional dialogue."
