Quality of governance and its impact on the informal economy in Tunisia

The aim of this paper is to identify the relationship between the quality of governance and the informal economy, and the way in which good governance practices contribute to decreasing informal economic activities. First, we assess the quality of governance in Tunisia globally and locally, we give an overview of the informal sphere in Tunisia, its characteristics, and its determinants, and then we highlight the role of good governance practices in limiting the negative consequences of the informal economy. Finally, we make recommendations to strengthen the quality of governance and we propose concrete actions that will help with managing future challenges in relation to informality and the fight against corruption.
