Intercultural living as a call to conversion

For people of faith, intercultural living is a theological undertaking : that is, it is motivated by faith in, and love of God. It represents an attempt to live a common life with people of diverse cultures, by embracing human cultural differences and together creating a new environment or “culture” in which all can find a home. However, each person will be required to make serious personal adjustments to previous ways of living, which will entail kenosis or “self-emptying”, compromise, patience, and dialogue. Intercultural living will expose the cultural and spiritual limitations of everyone, but it represents a biblically-based way of living in fellowship, solidarity and perseverance for the sake of the mission and as a sign that it is indeed “bonum, habitare fratres [et sorores] in unum.”
