As regards the question of the role of very old persons in the Apostolic institutes of consecrated life, the expectations placed on them, and their contribution to the evangelizing mission of the Church, I would reply by evoking their growth in wisdom, their awareness that the hour of the Great Encounter is approaching, their deeper sense of the role of a culture of thanksgiving in human maturing, and their sense of the urgency of forgiveness and mercy. And if I seek to specify the contribution of the Institutes as such to evangelization, it is the word hope that wells up within me. With S.
