The next synod of bishops on young people

Through a series of variations on the theme of “vocation”, which is one of the privileged keys for reading and understanding the meaning of the upcoming synod of bishops, the article is logically divided into three parts. It starts out with certain pro-vocations raised by the synodal procedure: the interesting innovation of the pre-synodal meeting, the intrinsic bond between identity and mission, and the great challenge posed by new technologies. It then moves through a number of in-vocations, which ask us to take faith as the starting point, as a source of the truth and the good life; from there, to move into the rhythm of discernment, briefly stopping to consider the qualities and characteristics of adults today. Lastly, it is important to offer a few con-vocations: first and foremost towards the Church, called to take on the traits of a community that moves outward, sees and calls. The article then puts forward the innovative idea of a “vocational ministry by and for young people”. Lastly, there comes an invitation to discern and share our best practices.
