Regarding the catechumenal inspiration of catechesis, the new Directory is in line with the catechetical reflection of recent years and the General Directory for Catechesis of 1997, while being marked by the thought of Pope Francis who refers to the need for « a kerygmatic and mystagogical catechesis ». This Directory gives two new keys to the interpretation of the catechumenal model. The first concerns the Ritual of Christian Initiation of Adults, which is now understood as an “accomplished form of the doctrine ». The second allows us to understand the importance of the articulation between « kerygma » and « mystagogy ». This is important for taking into account, in every catechetical act, the fundamental link between catechesis and liturgy implemented by mystagogical practice.
