Born out of the need to respond to the emergencies of the Second World War, the Cimade has tried throughout its history to give assistance to people who suffer. At first, it was the populations that were evacuated from the provinces of Alsace and Lorraine. Then, it was the internees. In the end of the war, the Cimade redirected its action to the refugees and since the 1970s it deals with the migrants. The evolution of its action does not radically modify the approach of the Cimade. On the contrary, it reveals its constant values. Indeed, the Cimade aims at facilitating the insertion of the foreigners and defending their rights and it was out of this action that the question of the organization’s development arose. These changes had an important impact on the structure of the Cimade, on its way of communicating, as well as on the ties it maintains.
