Oral testimony in history research: studying muslim refugees during the partition of India
Type de matériel :
91
Studying the migrations of Muslim refugees (known as the “Mohajirs” in historical literature) during the Partition of India, this article aims to highlight the specific aspects of oral testimony as a legitimate historical source. As Hindus and Sikhs are fleeing from Pakistan where they are persecuted, on the other side of the border, Indian Muslims who suffer from the same situation in India are going the other way. Their oral testimonies underline the “human dimension” (Ian Talbot) of these events and enlighten invisible aspects of the written sources.
