In spite of the gaps in the historiography of the LDH in the second 20th century, some major milestones can be outlined. Clearly weakened at the Liberation, it only emerged from the influence of the PCF, which did not want its rebirth, in the 1950s. With the accession of Daniel Mayer to his presidency in 1958 it received a new impetus that would continue until the end of the century.
