Although mainstream management science is more marked by research approaches based on proven phenomena, the use of prospective approaches may be useful in addressing emerging or developing phenomena, upon which strategic actions may depend. This article uses the scenario method to explore the impact of fintechs on banks and, adopting a more forward-looking perspective, the banking models that may consequently develop. The resulting implications spark a discussion on the strategic choices that are likely to be faced in the various future scenarios envisaged.
