Given the importance placed on appearances, more attention ought to be given to issues related to dress codes. Influenced by convention theory, this article is based on thirty-two interviews with recruiters in a banking sector caught between tradition and digital change. The study confirms the conventional character of clothing by setting out client advisors’ dress code, recruiters’ perceptions of it, and its theoretical and managerial implications.
