This paper explores the evolution of Old Aleppo in order to reveal the principal factors behind this evolution and its consequences. The core of the paper analyzes both the endogenous factors that supported the development of textile activities during the Ottoman era and the multiple transformations that occurred in this urban context during the twentieth century. Based on this analysis, we show that ancestral activities survive until today thanks to various productive actors and local sociocultural factors.
