Failures and delays in diagnosing endometriosis have been underscored in both the mainstream media and the medical press as public health scandals, due to the pain and infertility caused by the condition, which affects more than 10 percent of women of childbearing age. The presence of inflammatory, genetic, and epigenetic factors underpins the belief that endometriosis is present in some women “for life.” However, this belief is yet to be dealt with in therapeutic terms. What do we know about developments in medical treatments and their therapeutic effectiveness?
